It's The Little Things...

The Bible talks about the little foxes spoiling the vine (Song of Solomon 2:15). The metaphor there is to teach us about the little things in life that can make a mess and spoil something fruitful. It's meant to protect us from allowing seemingly unimportant things sneak into our lives and distract or hinder us from enjoying God's best in our life and fulfilling His ultimate purpose for us.

On the flip side of that, when we tend to little things, it can make a big difference. Take for instance the top of my refrigerator... Wednesday is usually my cleaning day when I do my weekly cleaning routine of dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning bathrooms, etc. I also try to pick up a couple of little things each week and this week, it was the top of my refrigerator. I'm not sure what make the top of one's refrigerator get so gunky but I seldom clean anything that's anymore sticky, dusty, and yuck. I suppose that may have something to do with the fact that I only clean it about twice a year... hey, I'm a real gal just like you! Anyway, I just walked by it as I was moving about cleaning this morning and saw what a cluttered mess it had become.

When I saw the junk that came off on my finger...

I made up my mind to act right then and there. It led to reorganizing where I store my serving dishes as well. The storage in our home is VERY limited and I had neglected to put away the large platter in my antique Victrola case because it always takes some reorganizing to get everything to fit back in there.

Once the platter, protein powder, pens, and fly swatter were removed, I gave the top a thorough cleaning with my favorite multi-tasker around the house, rubbing alcohol. It also inspired me to clean off pictures and just "stuff" off of our refrigerator that had accumulated with an odd variety of our magnets.
Look how sparkly it is now!

I have to admit, the fly swatter will probably remain on top of the refrigerator because when I want to swat some flying creature that's entered my home, I want to get to it FAST!

So gals, take on something small today. My project took less than 15 minutes and even though it's something you can't see, it gives me a sense of cleanliness and order about my home that is very empowering and peaceful. One of the best benefits about these little tasks I take on every Wednesday is that the Lord continually reminds me of the little things in my spiritual life that I need to tackle and tweak to make my life more productive for and pleasing to Him.

Blessings to you in every little thing!
